Please make a ranting post so that I know what to expect from Once Promised. I can forever rave about that until I die, it's not even a bluff. This is what I call 'fleshing out a character' (not even talking about how great Liu Shi Shi fleshed out RuoXi yet) and it truly makes me speechless when I think about this story and Startling by the Step, which has definitely come down as one of my most cherished dramas of all time. It's not about suaveness or how handsome the characters are when you fall in love with them as people. I still remember Yin Zheng's brothers in Startling by the Step and each of them seemed to have tied a string around my poor heart. Same with Startling by the Step where every single character small or big tugged at my heart and makes me feel so much for them. If Tonghua simplified the story and just focused on the romantic aspects of Chi You & Ah Heng's love story (it's totally moving in it's own, don't get me wrong) I don't think it'd appeal that much to me. I've read love stories and they aren't always like this. I have to disagree, she doesn't just write love stories in my opinion. You know who Jin Yong is? You don't!? Well shame one you lol Jin Yong writes wuxia and Tonghua writes love stories. The chinese Tonghua fans are already dubbing her female Jin Yong. I'm beginning to feel grateful that I didn't completely turn into an American haha It's definitely a privilege to be able to enjoy her books even with the poor excuse of Chinese proficiency I have. I want to get her autograph my goodness!!! She makes me proud of my culture and a bit exclusive at that. I think every story adapted into an onscreen version falls short, but that can be a calculated risk right? I completely think Tonghua deserves every ounce of fame she's enjoying right now. I'll take back what I said earlier since it's all my insecurities. If I could ask for anything, I hope for this to become a drama so that this story could get the love it deserves. It's in Chinese, so thank goodness for audio books. I seriously need to buy this book even if I can't read a chapter of it. She's phenomenally good at this kind of stuff. What'd I expect from the author of the emotionally exhausting 步步惊心 Bu Bu Jing Xin ? That made me cry like I lost my soul.
